Biography

Ernest Reed Wohlford, age 91, of Wytheville, VA passed away Tuesday, July 3, 2012. He was born on July 26, 1920 in Wythe County, the son of the late Allen and Mae Irvin Wolford.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth Johnson Wohlford; daughter, Wanda Sheffey and 2 sons, Carlos Wayne Wohlford and E.M. Wohlford; siblings, Clayton, Willis, Elizabeth and Thelma. Reed was United States Army veteran of WWII, a member of Mt. Ephraim United Methodist Church and Wytheville Masonic Lodge # 82 A.F. and A.M.
He is survived by his daughters and sons-in-law, Connie and Allen Sawyers of Wytheville, VA,
Teana and Robert Hale of Crockett, VA, son-in-law, Gene Sheffey of Wytheville, VA; daughter-in-law, Linda Schoolcraft of Wytheville, VA; grandchildren , Mack and Darby Wohlford, Wayne, Den and Mark Sheffey, Tammy, Tracie, Logan, Jared, Brandon and Beth Sawyers, Rickell Cline and Chad Hale; 22 great grandchildren and 5 great-great grandchildren; sisters and brothers, Zelma Tarter, Audrey Copenhaver, Vivian Worton,
Myra Sayers, Fred “Skip” Wolford and Danny Wohlford; sisters-in-law, Betty Wolford and Nancy Wohlford. Several nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, July 7, 2012 at Mt. Ephraim United Methodist Church with the Reverend Steve Alderman and Reverend Jeff Callahan officiating. Interment will follow in Mt. Emphraim Cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Barnett Funeral Chapel or at the residence at any time. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, P.O. Box 96011, Washington, D.C. 20090-6011. Barnett Funeral Home, Wytheville, VA is handling the arrangements.
