Biography

Catherine Lee Thornton Robson, age 89, of Wytheville, VA., passed away, Thursday, July 12, 2012, at the Wythe County Community Hospital. She was born May 13, 1923, in Maybeury, WV, daughter of the late Hemp Thornton and Zella Robertson Thornton. She is preceded in death by her husband; Arthur Frank Robson, a daughter; Donna Lee Shemansky. Catherine was a member of the Wytheville Baptist Church, and a retired supervisor of the East Campus Cafeteria at the high school in Pekin, IL. She is survived by her grandson, Trent Compton of Lauderdale by the Sea, FL; son-in-law, Ted Shemansky of Erlanger, KY; sister, Ann O’Dell of Maryland; sister-in-law, Frieda Thornton of Princeton, WV ; special friends, Brenda Umbarger of Atkins, VA and Betty Robinette of Wytheville, VA. Several nieces, nephews, and cousins also survive. A graveside service will be held Wednesday, July 18, 2012, 11:00 A.M., at the Rest Haven Memorial Park, in Princeton, WV, with Reverend Jim Denton officiating. There will be no visitation at the funeral home. Barnett Funeral Home, Wytheville, VA., is in charge of arrangements.
