Alvin "Al"
R. Belcher
August 7, 1939 – October 6, 2025
Alvin "Al" R. Belcher, 86, passed away at home on October 6, 2025, surrounded by his devoted family. A man of strength, integrity, and steady determination, Alvin was grounded in hard work and faith.
At the center of his world was his beloved wife, Eileen his Suzie, his Nana. Together they built a life rooted in tradition, family, and enduring love. A man of deep faith, Alvin studied his Bible daily and lived by its promises.
He was a proud father to Scott (Suzanne) and Deborah (Stacey), and a cherished grandfather to Andrew, Baleigh, Nicole, and Tyler. The joy of his later years came with the arrival of his great-granddaughter, Macy, who carried his love into the next generation.
Alvin lived a full and varied life, residing in several places from West Virginia to Arizona to Virginia. Over the years, he was an entrepreneur, businessman, race car driver, prison warden, and funeral home director. After retiring from Walker Machinery, he returned to his first love—farming—alongside his son Scott and grandson Andrew.
He was preceded in death by his parents, H. T. and Eva Belcher. He is survived by his wife, Eileen; his children Deborah Whitt and husband Stacey of Atlanta, Georgia, and Scott Belcher and wife Suzanne of Meadowview, Virginia; his brother Dr. James Belcher and wife Becky of Richlands, Virginia; grandchildren Tyler Whitt (Martha), Nicole Whitt, Andrew Belcher, and Baleigh Belcher; great-granddaughter Macy Whitt; and several nieces and nephews.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to Caris Hospice and Dr. William Handy for their compassionate care. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Alvin's name to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
Abiding by Al's wishes, there will be no services.
Highland Bland Funeral Chapel, Bland, VA is serving the Belcher family.
