Barbara "Bobbie" Gassaway Rudy, age 79, retired Library Secretary, passed away on March 11, 2017 in her home surrounded by loved ones, after a long battle with Alzheimer's disease. She was predeceased by her husband, Mahlon Kyle Rudy Sr., sisters Virginia G. Taylor and Joan G. Heywood, and mother and father. Bobbie attended Clover High School in Clover, Virginia where she was a star basketball player, and graduated with an Associate's Degree in Library Science from Roanoke Business College. Moving to Richmond, Virginia in 1968 with her husband and three children, she served her community for over 30 years. Family, friends and her dog Sidney were Bobbie's love and joy. Dedicating her life's work to the Robious Middle School library, she brought her humor, spirit and strong coffee to the staff and faculty of the school for over 20 years. An avid bowler, she was a member of the Robious bowling team, and often lead the team in her scores and wit.
Bobbie was a long time member of Huguenot United Methodist Church in Richmond Virginia, where she sang in the church choir, and volunteered to feed the homeless. She is survived by her daughters Susan K. Rudy, Rebecca Rudy Hart, son M. Kyle Rudy Jr., son-in-law Darius de Haas, and three grandchildren, Barbara "BJ" Davis (Leslie), Rudy Boroughs (Jill), and Ashley Pullen (Kyle). She is also survived by four great-grandchildren, Makayla L. Boroughs, Ellee K. Pullen, Rebecca M. Pullen and Jared Boroughs; and many caring relatives and friends.
