Barbara Ann Saferight Akers went to be in God's nearer presence on January 30, 2026. She was born on July 9, 1937, married and had three children. She earned her cosmetology certificate and started her own business, which she ran for more than 30 years.

She was VERY caring and had a kind, loving, and compassionate heart. She made friends everywhere she went, but her family always came first, and she would do anything to help a family member. She will be sorely missed, especially her kindness and her infectious smile.

Barbara was preceded in death by her father, Jack; her mother, Alma, and her husband of 57 years, Joseph S. Akers.

She is survived by her brother, Elwood Saferight (Barbara), her three children; Craig (Jan), Barry (Linda), and Kim Mutter (Billy), as well as four grandchildren; Natasha, Brittany, Joseph, and Cody, and six great grandchildren; Mila, Easton, Liya, Decker, Charlie, and Lucy.

May her peace be eternal.

Funeral services will be held at 12:00 noon Friday, February 6, 2026 at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 405 W. Main Street, Wytheville, VA with the Reverend Jonathan Hamman officiating. The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. until service time.

Burial will follow the service in West End Cemetery.
