Duane “Duke” Alley passed away peacefully after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Though he considered himself a simple man, those who knew and loved him knew he was a man of incredible strength, kindness, and resilience.

Duane faced hardships throughout his life with determination and grace. He lost his father in a tragic accident at the age of 9 and later endured the loss of his mother just days before a major surgery of his own. Despite life’s challenges, family remained his greatest source of strength and the center of his world.

Known affectionately by many names — Duke, Snooky Duke, Duwalley, Dad, and Pawpaw — Duane was deeply loved by his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him. He also shared a special bond with his beloved dogs, especially Ranger.

Duane fought bravely through lung cancer, esophageal cancer, and metastatic cancer, always carrying himself with courage and an enduring smile — the same contagious smile he had carried since he was a baby throughout his entire life. He never let his illness define him.

He found joy in life’s simple pleasures: fishing, hunting, horseback riding, gardening, and canning. He took great pride in sharing the fruits of his labor with others, and giving to those around him brought him genuine happiness.

A true jack of all trades, Duane worked many jobs throughout his life, including machinist, signal light installer, factory worker, fountain technician, and even Christmas tree trimmer. No matter the task, he approached it with hard work, dedication, and pride.

Duane was known as one of the most forgiving people you could meet, though those closest to him would smile and say he could also be stubborn at times. His generous heart, willingness to help others, and unwavering love for his family will never be forgotten.

Though his battle here on earth has ended, his family finds peace in knowing he is now resting peacefully — likely casting a line and fishing in heaven.

He will be deeply missed and forever loved by all who knew him.
