Bessie Jewel

October 29, 1936 – October 8, 2024
The Lord gave, and the Lord hath taken away; blessed be the name of the Lord. Job 1:21
Bessie Jewel Chois Crockett was born October 29, 1936, to the late Retha Williams in Tyler Texas. She was an only child and began piano lessons when she was very young.
Bessie attended elementary and middle school in Tyler, Texas. She moved to Detroit with her mother and graduated from Cleveland High School.
Along with other family members she attended Jones Temple Church of God in Christ in Detroit, Michigan under the leadership of the late Bishop Alexander Jones. She accepted Christ as her Savior, played the piano for the services and choir performances for the Great Lakes Jurisdiction of Michigan functions.
Bessie met Albert Charles Crockett at Jones Temple and after a period of courtship they married on January 27, 1957. Two sons, Kelvin Lee and Byron Durant were born to this union.
Bessie attended cosmetology school and worked in beauty shops in Detroit, keeping the women of Detroit looking good and the ladies of the Church of God in Christ ready for church. She also worked at Sinai Hospital for 8 years as a floor clerk.
After Albert retired, they moved to Max Meadows, Virginia. Bessie used her musical talent at Franklin Street United Methodist Church playing the piano for the congregation and choir and bringing joy to God's people.
Albert preceded her in death in 2002. Her son, Byron preceded her in death in 2021.
