Betty Sue Ingo Wingo, age 86, passed away August 17, 2024. She was born October 1, 1937 to the late Herold (Buck) and Hazel Ingo in Ivanhoe, VA. She was proceeded in death by her husband Charles A. Wingo, brother Thomas F. Ingo and grandson Philip C. Sheffey.
She is survived by two daughters Rosemary McPeak and husband Benton of Galax, VA, Wendy Wingo of Rural Retreat, VA; two sons Charles Wingo and wife Laura of Pulaski, VA, and Darren Wingo; six grandchildren Trudie Montgomery and husband Jason of Lexington SC., Andy Walke and wife Caroline of Columbia SC, Dawn Sheffey and partner Justin of Ivanhoe, VA, Matthew Sheffey and partner Theo of Rural Retreat, VA, Virginia Wingo of Roanoke VA, and Kara Wingo of Chicago, IL; eight great grandchildren Andrew Walke, Natalie Walke, Cooper Walke, Abigail Montgomery, Nicholas Wingo, Kymlee Corvin, Autumn Corvin and Alex Corvin; one nephew Tony Ingo of NC; and Special Friend Kathy Whalen.
Betty graduated from George Wythe High School when she was 16 years old. She attended nursing training in Philadelphia, PA. She returned to finish nursing training in Pulaski, VA where she graduated in 1957 as a registered nurse. She and Charles raised 4 children and 2 of their grandchildren. She was a pianist from a very young age and played for church services and funerals. She had several jobs throughout her life but none she enjoyed more than being at home sewing and making quilts.
Betty served on the board of Social Services for several years and was a member of the Rural Retreat Town Council. She worked to better the lives of others by serving on these seats. She was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, where on occasion she played piano for services.
Rosemary and Wendy would like to Thank the staff and doctors at Mountain Laurel Nursing Home for their care and dedication over the last year. Everyone there went above and beyond to care for our mother. They worked hard with her in physical therapy to keep her as mobile for as long as they could.
Per her instructions there will be no service or visitation. Her family will mourn her passing privately. Thanks to everyone for their love and support.
