Aviation Crew Member, Unites States Navy - Retired, E-9 Master Chief, Bobby Joel Bradbery, began flying his final mission on Sunday, February 22, 2026.
His military career spanned 23 years, October 6, 1952 – July 8, 1975. He proudly served his country through the Vietnam War era. Throughout his distinguished naval career, he was assigned to several respected aviation commands including Patrol Squadron 44 (VP-44), Fleet Air Support Squadron 106 (FASRON-106), Patrol Squadron 5 (VP-5), and training Squadron 23 (VT-23). He finished his career as the Senior Enlisted Advisor aboard the aircraft carrier, U.S.S. America (CV-66). His life stands as a testament to Duty, Honor, and Sacrifice.
Following his military career, he used his Navy knowledge and skills to found and operate Wythe Power Equipment, a successful electronics manufacturing corporation in Wytheville.
Bobby passed from this world peacefully, surrounded by family, at his home in Wytheville, Virginia. He was a husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle and proud pilot. Bobby, also known as Pops, Bob, BJ, Brad and grandpa, was a great friend and golfing buddy to many. He was preceded in death by his wife, of 62 years, Nancy, and an infant son, Troy. Having come from a military family where all 6 brothers served, he is also predeceased by his brothers, Jack, Bill, Ron, Clarence (Buss) and Larry (Bo).
He is survived by his children, Peggy, Bobby (Cindy), Terry (Jane), Bruce (Stephanie), Denise, and Toni (Arlie), 9 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.
The family will receive friends at Mount Pleasant United Methodist beginning at 12:00 noon on Wednesday, February 25, 2026. The funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. with Chaplain Jason Kline officiating and the graveside service will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will also receive friends at the home from 10:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 24th.
