Obituary

On Saturday, February 24, 2024, our beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend died. He was surrounded by his family and passed away peacefully, as we can only imagine, into the loving arms of his wife, Connie C. Moore, who we know has been waiting for him.
Brent was born December 5, 1941, at home in Wytheville, VA to Robert Brent Moore, Sr. and Jane Oewel Moore.
From a very young age, Brent was always fascinated by how to make things run and had a curiosity about all of life that never left him.
He graduated from George Wythe High School in 1960 where he played both football and tennis. Then, he followed his brothers' leads and attended Virginia Tech where he received both a bachelor's and master's degree in mechanical engineering. He was also in every honor fraternity Virginia Tech offered.
Luckily for us, while in college, he asked his high school friend to set him up on a blind date where he met and later married the love of his life, Connie Catron Moore, in July of 1964.
His first job out of college was at Eastman Kodak in Kingsport, Tennessee. While living in Kingsport, he and a few close friends helped establish Saint Christopher's Episcopal Church and the cross he built still hangs in the sanctuary.
When his father died, Brent returned home to Wytheville to help his brother Charles run their much beloved family farm, Glencoe Farms, and Wythe Lumber Company. While farming, he established the SWVA Bull Test Station.  He loved learning about the effects of diet and genetics to build a better bull. He also appeared on the cover of Southern Beef Producer on October 15, 1976.
With kids going to college, he then accepted a job in engineering at Magnox, Inc. in Pulaski, VA.  After that, he returned to Wytheville and finished his working career at Quadrant Engineering Plastic Products. After retiring, he became fascinated by holly trees and enjoyed growing and selling holly from his small farm. It let him still drive his tractor, tinker around fixing things, and farm his land.
As a love letter to his wife, in 1979, he was Chairman of the Committee to build a public library in Wytheville. Wythe County Public Library fulfilled his wife's desire to make access to books much easier for the residents of Wythe County.
Loving his community, he served as Chairman of the Department of Social Services and was a member of both the Rotary Club and the Lion's Club.
Brent was Episcopalian through and through and loved his church family at St. John's Episcopal Church where he served as Senior Warden, Junior Warden, Chairman of the preschool board and usher.
Brent led a wonderful life filled with joy, gratitude, and curiosity. He shared a special closeness with his two brothers, and loved every minute with his family and especially his grandsons. His smile lit up every room that he ever entered.
His boundless love he freely expressed to us, his amazing wisdom, and the endless stories of his childhood that always entertained us will be deeply missed.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Brent Moore, Sr., and Jane Oewel Moore; one brother, Edward Towson Moore; one sister-in-law, Mary Lea Moore; and one nephew, Charles Ross  Moore.

He is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Karen M. Miller and LTC (R) Etthan C. Miller; one son, Robert Brent Moore III; all of Wytheville; grandsons Jacob E. Deane and his wife, Dr. Mackenzie K. Deane of Winchester, VA,  and Ethan N. Deane of Winston-Salem, NC, step-granddaughters, Lauren Boothe and husband Christopher Boothe of Kernersville, NC; and Eden Miller of Wytheville.
He is also survived by one brother,  Charles O. Moore of Jefferson, GA, and one sister-in-law, Linda L. Moore of Durham, NC.  Several much loved nieces and nephews also survive.
A visitation will be held on Saturday, March 2, 2024, at St. John's Episcopal Church in Wytheville, Virginia, from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM with the funeral service immediately following.
The family would like to thank the staff at Smyth County Community Hospital Emergency Room for their care and immeasurable compassion.
The family will receive friends at the home of his daughter, Karen, at any time.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. John's Episcopal Church.  The family is being cared for by Barnett Funeral Home.
