On the evening of September 6, 2025, Cathy Crystal Grubb McElrath, having fought a good fight with extended illness, was called home to be with her Heavenly Father.

Cathy was born on October 30, 1955, in Wytheville, Virginia. She attended Fort Chiswell High School and continued her education at Wytheville Community College, where she obtained degrees in both Mental Health and Business Management. Cathy worked for Wytheville Community College for over 16 years until she moved from Virginia to Charlotte, NC, where she worked for several years with Wachovia Bank. Once she moved back to Virginia, she began working for Tridium, Inc. (Honeywell), where she worked for 22 years until her retirement.

Cathy was preceded in death by both parents, Gerald "Ralph" Grubb and Catherine Mae Crockett Grubb, both of Ivanhoe, VA. She was also preceded by her brother-in-law, William "Pete" Kyle.

She is survived by her two loving sons & daughter-in-law, Matthew & Deidre Braxton of Max Meadows, VA and Dennis "DJ" McElrath of Richmond, VA; her daughter and son-in-law, Heather & Ronnie Robinson of Garner, NC; her two sisters, half sister and brother-in-law, Shelley Kyle of Wytheville, VA, Linda & Zack Kyle of Mooresville, NC, and Angel & Charles Howard of Wytheville, VA; her six grandchildren, Ciara Robinson, Ronald "Trey" Robinson, Miriam Braxton, Mallory Braxton, Madison Braxton and Mariel Braxton; and her devoted friend in Christ, Celita Ragsdale. She is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She will be missed by many.

Funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 20, 2025, at Barnett Funeral Home in Wytheville, VA, with Pastor Shelley Kyle officiating. The family will receive friends one hour before service time.
