Celia "Teal" Marie Umberger Shelton, age 94, of Wytheville, VA passed away Thursday, June 13, 2024. She was born February 1, 1930 in Wythe County, daughter of the late Walter James Umberger and Bertha Mae Catron Umberger. She was also preceded in death by two sisters, Etta Eversole and her twin, Claudia Cregger; three brothers, Lawrence Umberger, Garland Umberger and Floyd Umberger.

Teal loved to tend to her flowers and always had a large vegetables garden that she pampered thru the summer. At harvest time, she canned many jars of green beans and tomatoes. She always looked forward to picking the first cucumbers and green peppers off the vine. The deer and rabbits also liked her garden and it was a battle to keep them away.

She also loved quilting. She made some beautiful quilts that she took great pride in and shared with her family. She was heartbroken when her eyesight no longer allowed her to quilt. We will always cherish her gifts that were made with her loving hands.

Teal attended the Restoration Church until her health no longer allowed her to go. She faithfully listened to Christian radio programs hearing the Word and listening to hymns. She loved the Lord and was ready to take Jesus' hand while traveling through the valley of the shadow of death. She set an example for us all by living a Christian life.

Survivors include her loving husband of 72 years, Lewis M. Shelton, Jr.; four children and their spouses, Wesley Shelton and Bertha of Cripple Creek, Randy Shelton and Shelley of Wytheville, Kathy Wheatley and Joe of Grahams Forge and Ricky Shelton of the home; five grandchildren, Bradley Martin (Tabitha), Angie Sharitz (Cory), Todd Martin, Philip Martin and Chance Shelton; several great-grandchildren; two sisters, Paige Fielder and Ruth Spraker; special caregiver, Amy Mustard and husband, Mike.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 18, 2024 at the Restoration Church with Pastor Jeremy Farley officiating. The family will receive friends one hour before service time. Interment will follow the service in West End Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-9959 which she supported many years.
