Charles E. Copenhaver, Jr., age 82, passed away October 19, 2018.  He was born August 22, 1936 at Crockett to Charlie and Lottie Dix Copenhaver.  He was preceded in death by his parents and sister-in-law Rhonda Groseclose Houseman.

He was a graduate of Rural Retreat High School class of 1953. He was a lifetime Wythe County farmer.  He loved working on the family's farm and was 10 when they got their first tractor.   He was an avid FFA member and earned his State Farmer degree.  He drove a bus for Wythe County Schools for 47 years, serving some families for 3 generations.  He worked for the Rural Retreat Vance Company for 16 years, and upon its closing, he worked at Southern States in Rural Retreat.  He was a member of King's Grove United Methodist Church for 70 years.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years Betty Groseclose Copenhaver, a daughter Lisa and James "Ikey" Davidson, a son Jeff and Faith Copenhaver, and four beautiful grandchildren- Sabrina and Sara Beth Davidson, Maggie Grace and Troy Copenhaver.  He is also survived by a sister Peggy and Doug Brewer of Wytheville, a brother, Douglas and Eleanor Copenhaver of Salem, brothers-in-law Jerry and Lois Groseclose of New Castle, and Gary Houseman and family of Wytheville, and an aunt, Pauline Dix Kincer of Roanoke.  Several nieces, nephews, and cousins also survive.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, October 24, 2018, at 2:00 PM at Lindsey Memorial Chapel in Rural Retreat with Reverend C. W. Huff, Reverend Richard Gregory and Dr. Gary Houseman officiating.  Interment will follow in the King's Grove Cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday, October 23, 2018 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM. Donations may be made to King's Grove Cemetery Endowment, Inc. in care of Clyde Copenhaver, 2202 Crockett Road, Crockett, VA  24323.
