Charles Edward “Buddy” Lyons, age 84 of Crockett, Va passed away peacefully Monday, April 13, 2026. He was born in Wythe County, Va on February 16, 1942 to the late William Edward Lyons and Mary Elizabeth Litz Lyons. He was preceded in death by his parents and wife Elizabeth Delauney Lyons. He was a devoted husband, brother, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. Buddy was a standout High School Athlete and continued his love of sports as a spectator for his kids and grandkids. TV his favorite channel was ESPN and he had many years of perfect March Madness brackets. His secret was to fill the bracket out after the game.

Buddy was a long-time employee at Southwestern State Hospital. He retired from the State Lab in Wytheville, VA. He was a Webelos Cubmaster Pack 58 and took the kids on many adventures. He enjoyed pressing his limits among his accomplishments were Canoeing the New River from start to Claytor Lake. He biked along the Blue Ridge Parkway from start to finish, with many century rides included. He was very proud of hiking the Appalachian Trail from Georgia to Maine.

He is survived by a son Charles “Chuck” Lyons Jr. and wife Tammy of Scottsville, Va; daughter Kathy Whalen and husband Mike of Speedwell, Va; five grandchildren Kate Lawall and husband Dan, Caleb Whalen and Skyler Webber, Jake Whalen and fiancé Kylie, Trey Lyons, and Jay Lyons; three great-grandchildren Liam, Ada, and Josie; brothers Bernie Lyons and wife Debbie, David Lyons all of Rural Retreat, Va; sister Janet Edwards and husband Claude of Dublin, Va; numerous nieces and nephews, and extended family members.
