Clarence Walter Russell, Sr. age 95, of Austinville, VA passed away peacefully in his home Wednesday, April 5, 2017. He was the son of the late Phillip Cleveland Russell and Flora Thomason Russell and was preceded in death by several brothers and sisters. Clarence was a Navy veteran of WWII, serving as Seaman 1st Class in the USS Melvin from 1943 to 1946. He was a member of Austinville Pentecostal Holiness Church, member of the Hillsville VFW, member of Lead Mines Ruritan Club and active member of Lead Mines Senior Citizens Club.
He is survived by his loving wife, Elizabeth Russell of the home; three children and spouses, C.W. Russell and wife DeeDee of Grahams Forge, VA, Joyce Martin and husband John of Austinville, VA, Penni Rowsey and husband Ray of Austinville, VA; sister, Jewell Williamson of Lakeland, FL; six grandchildren, Tim Martin, Jeff Martin, Matthew Montgomery, Brittney Montgomery, Philip Russell and April Lovern; nine great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 7:00 p.m. Sunday, April 9, 2017 at the Austinville Pentecostal Holiness Church with Pastor John Jenkins officiating. The family will receive friends Sunday from 5:00 p.m. until service time at the church. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, April 10 at the Southwest Virginia Veterans Cemetery, Dublin, VA.
