Craig Allison,
Jr.
December 5, 1940 – February 8, 2021
John Craig Allison, Jr. age 80, of Wytheville, VA passed away Monday, February 8, 2021. He was born December 5, 1940 in Warrenton, NC, the son of the late John Craig, Sr. and Rose Kimball Allison. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Sue Allison and two brothers-in-law, Jim Cox and Doug Chrisley.
Craig was a veteran of the United States Army and was a Virginia Tech graduate. He was a well-known and recognized voice in the community, having spent many years as a radio personality. He served both as an announcer and in administration with WYVE Radio Station. He worked several years until his retirement with Two-Way Radio in Wytheville.
After his retirement, he once again found his way back to the vocation that he loved, working part-time with WYVE. Craig was a faithful member of Wytheville Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, J.C. "Jay" and Tina Allison of Wytheville; his sister, Mary Barclay Cox of Highpoint, NC; two grandchildren, Ashley Rose Allison and John Craig Allison V; three great-grandchildren, Taylor Marie Umberger, Kayleigh Jay Conley and Kanen Michael Conley.
Graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, February 13, 2021 at West End Cemetery. Graveside military rites will be conducted by American Legion Post #9.
Due to Covid-19 restrictions, there will be no visitation or services at the funeral home. The family will receive friends at Craig's residence, 1640 W. Main Street, Wytheville, VA at any time.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial donations may be made to the charity of choice.
All persons attending the graveside service are required to wear a facial covering and practice social distancing so we all may comply with COVID -19 regulations and restrictions to protect the health of all present. Please remember that a warm smile and a kind word can be as meaningful to the family as a handshake or a hug during these difficult times.
