David Lee "Smitty" Smith, age 56, of Wytheville, VA passed away Monday, April 14, 2025. He was born October 5, 1968 in Wythe County, son of the late Ronald Arland Smith and Lula Josepine Shelton Smith. He was preceded in death by his son, Brandon Lee Smith.

David was a friend to all who knew him. He had a kind heart, an infectious laugh and a great sense of humor. He was so proud to be chosen as the God-father to Jada Michelle Johnson by his best friend and BBQ buddy, Michael Johnson.

Survivors include his companion, Dawn Smith; his sister, Judy and Tom Reese, Jr; his god-daughter, Jada Michelle Johnson; 4 brothers, Jeff Smith, Tony and Tammy Smith, Jimmy and Debbie Smith, Ronnie and Leanne Smith; special brother and best friend for 40 years, Michael Johnson; 2 nieces, Amy Perdue, Jessica Justus and nephew, Josh Smith; 9 great-nieces and great-nephews, Brittany Brown, Ronni Smith, Annabelle Perdue, Ethan Perdue, Julianna Justus, Addison Smith, Silas Perdue, Jace Justus and Avery Smith; 3 step-children, Chasity Petty, Nicole Hunter and Parker Akers; 8 step-grandchildren, Addyson, Jordan, Klaire, Bentley, Kohen, Jameson, Jaxton and Maverick. Many extended family and friends also survive.

Funeral services will be held at 7:00 p.m. Thursday, April 17, 2025 at the Barnett Funeral Home with the Reverend Wade Whisman officiating. The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. until service time.

The graveside service will be held at 12:00 noon Friday, April 18th at West End Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations be made to the American Cancer Society. Barnett Funeral Home, Wytheville, VA is serving the Smith family.
