Doris Skidmore
Kincer
March 4, 1925 – March 3, 2022
Doris Skidmore Kincer, of Wytheville, Virginia, passed away March 3rd just shy of her 97th birthday. Born in Detroit, Michigan to Welzie and Ninnie Skidmore, Doris grew up in Ewing, Virginia. She studied at Lincoln Memorial University and graduated from Radford College. She taught physical education at Wytheville High School before becoming a full time housewife. Doris volunteered for the American Red Cross and was a lifelong member of St. Paul United Methodist Church where she served in many capacities. She enjoyed sending get well cards to those who were ill, or birthday and anniversary cards to celebrate a special day. She always thought of others before herself.
Doris was preceded in death by her husband Jamie G. (Jimmy) Kincer and a son, Michael Kincer. She is survived by her daughter, Jamie C. Kincer and special daughter, Sharon Linkous; grandson Matthew J. Kincer and Casandra Smith; and her brother and wife, Barney and Irene Skidmore. She is also survived by nieces and nephew, Rebecca Tuttle, Linda Brightwell, Frank Turner, Jr, and Karen Noah, as well as 2 great godchildren, Ramie Woods and Ryan Simpkins.
The family thanks some very special friends who shared their lives with Mom. Those very dear to her were Freda Hall, Patty Hurst, Bill and Norma Hankins, Judy and Jerry Willis, and Judy Walters. She felt so blessed having them in her life. Also thank you to Mary Booth and Wendy Simpkins for caring for her while she was ill , and to Wythe Hospice of Southwest Virginia for all the excellent care that she received.
There will be a graveside service on April 2 nd at 2pm at East End Cemetery, followed by the receiving of friends at the St. Paul Church In lieu of flowers, please send donations to St Paul United Methodist Church, Wytheville , or Agape Food Pantry, Wytheville. Barnett Funeral Home, Wytheville, VA is serving the Kincer family.
