Dorothy Fayette Krenning Spraker, age 100, of Newport News, VA, formerly of Wytheville, VA passed away Wednesday, May 3, 2017 at The Newport Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Newport News, VA. She was born December 18, 1916 in Wytheville, the daughter of the late Louis F. Krenning and Fayette Stevens Krenning. She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Walter Watson Spraker; a son and daughter-in-law, Edward Duane and Jean Spraker; son-in-law, Carlos Ray Johnson; granddaughters, Teresa Holt and Carolyn Brock; two brothers and three sisters. Dorothy was a member of the Wytheville Presbyterian Church. She resided in Newport News, VA with her daughter for the past eleven years where she attended the Denbigh United Presbyterian Church. Dorothy enjoyed crafts, cross-stitch, working in her flower garden and camping. She was a member of the Grafton Bunco group for many years and also loved attending outdoor summer concerts with neighbors. Dorothy volunteered for the Wytheville Social Services for many years, packing food boxes for those in need. She had worked at Greenlawn Classics and Narrow Fabric for many years. She is survived by her daughters, Dorothy Rebecca Johnson of Salem, VA and Emily Theal Edwards of Newport News, VA; five grandchildren, Jennifer Flippin (Randy) of Christiansburg, VA, Malcolm Johnson (Linda) of Rocky Mount, VA, Monica Johnson of Roanoke, VA, Cynthia Wells of Simpsonville, SC, Watson Allen Edwards (Sharon) of Radford, VA; nine great-grandchildren, five great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, May 6, 2017 at the Wytheville Presbyterian Church. Interment will follow in St. John's Cemetery in Wytheville.
The family will receive friends one hour before service time at the church. A memorial service will be held at Denbigh United Presbyterian Church in Newport News, VA at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Wytheville Presbyterian Church or Denbigh United Presbyterian Church youth programs.
