Dorothy Jean
White
October 2, 1944 – September 2, 2017
Dorothy Jean White of Ivanhoe, Virginia, born October 2, 1944 to the late Ellis White and Mary Edna Gilliam White, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, September 2, 2017 at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital in Roanoke, Virginia. Dorothy was a dutiful daughter, loving sister, aunt, confidant and friend. She gave her life to Jesus at a young age. Dorothy grew into a powerful discerning woman with a heart of gold. She took pleasure in rightly dividing the word of God. She gave advice and support to whomever sought her for understanding and counsel and it was received knowing it was given without judgement but with love and wise counsel of God. As a member of the Ivanhoe Church of God of Prophecy, Dorothy gave her time, talent and life to the Glory of God. She operated in the church body holding the positions of Assistant Clerk and Treasurer, Assistant Missionary Leader, Sunday School Teacher and lifted her voice to give God praise as a member of the church choir "The Voices of Praise".
Dorothy meant so many things to family, friends and those she came in contact with, that it is impossible to express in few paragraphs. One thing was certain, it was impossible to be in her presence and not know she was a Christian. Jesus was on her inside and beamed to her outside. You could feel as well as see her love of God in every aspect of her life. Her kindness, humbleness and faith were undeniable. One of her favorite scriptures she stood on was Isaiah 53:5 "But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed." She knew healing sometimes happens on the other side of Zion.
In addition to her parents, Dorothy was preceded in death by her brothers, Richard, Stanley and James White; sisters, Magnolia Crockett, Mary Jane Bragg and Josephine Brown.
Dorothy is survived by six sisters, Edna Venita Cox of Ivanhoe, VA, Martha Murrell of Wytheville, VA, Mary Alice, Velma Ann, Alma Novella and Gwendolyn Lee White, all of Ivanhoe, VA; one brother and sister-in-law, Alfred and Marie White of Elk Creek, VA; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends all of whom loved and adored her.
1 Thessalonians 4:13-17.
