Douglas Randolph Hilton, 87 of Rural Retreat, Virginia, passed away peacefully at his home on July 30, 2026.
Randolph was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Linda Fay Hilton; his son Darren Hilton; his parents Ralph and Miriam Hilton; and his brothers, David Hilton and Paul Hilton.
A proud Vietnam-era veteran, Randolph honorably served his country in the United States Navy from 1962 to 1965 aboard the UUS Ticonderoga. During his service, the ship supported operations during the Vietnam War. Following his military service, he worked as a truck driver and was employed by Waddell Transfer in Atkins, Virginia, where he dedicated 23 years of service. He will be remembered for his strong work ethic, quiet strength, kind heart, and the many friendships he treasured throughout his life.
Randolph found great joy in the outdoors and especially loved fishing the Chesapeake Bay with his brother "Pete" and cousin Jim Hilton. He also enjoyed a good round of golf and had many golfing buddies through the years, creating memories that will be cherished by all who knew him.
He is survived by his nieces, Melissa Cressell (Danny), Monica Patton (Foy) of Rural Retreat, Virginia, Robin Phillips of Waldorf, Maryland; his nephew Mitch Herzberg of Pomfret, Maryland; his sister-in-law Joan Herzberg of White Plains, Maryland; his special friend Joan Stuart of Wytheville, Virginia; her companionship and love was so special to him; his very special neighbors Ramie Thompson and Debbie Burkett, whose friendship, kindness, and support meant so much to him.
Randolph will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all whose lives he touched. His memory will live on in the hearts of those who loved him.
Memorial Service will be held Sunday, August 9, 2026 at 7 P.M. at Lindsey Funeral Home with Pastor Jonathan Hamman and Mr. Ramie Thompson officiating. Military rites will be by the American Legion Post 229 and the United States Navy Honor Guard. The family will receive friends from 6 pm until service time on Sunday, August 9, 2026.
