Edgar F. Ayers, Jr. age 76 of Max Meadows, Virginia went to his heavenly home on April 4, 2024.  He was born on September 26, 1947, the son of Edgar F. Ayers, Sr. and Lessie I. Viars Ayers.  He was preceded in death by his parents, his son Eddie Ayers, his brother John, his sisters Madeline Ayers Viars, Mary Lee (Nancy) Ayers and Frances Lea Ayers, and nephew Duane Ayers.

Survivors include his wife Elizabeth S. Ayers, his brothers and sisters-in law, Carl and Shirley Ayers of Piney and Gary and Nita Ayers of Max Meadows.  Also, many nieces and nephews survive.

Ed was employed by Elco Construction, Adams Construction and Pendleton Construction Corporation and later started his own company, Ayers Construction Company, where he was still working.

He was drafted into the US Army Reserves and was located to Fort Lewis in the State of Washington in January 1970.  He was chosen as Best Drill Sargent of his Unit and served as Drill Sargent until September 1976, where he received an Honorable Discharge with the rank of SPC E7. During his life, he was a member of the Max Meadows P. H. Church and was always willing to help others in the community.

He was loved so much by all that knew him and will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

He always had a new (or old) story about the shared grandchildren that he loved to tell those he met during his "travels" around Wythe County.  His face would light up with the Love he had for these children and his extended "Family".

The family would like to extend a special mention to Wanda, Patsy and Ronnie, Vickie, and Michelle (Midget).

Funeral services will be held at 7:00 p.m. Thursday, April 11, 2024 at Max Meadows Pentecostal Holiness Church. The family will receive friends from 5:00 until service time. Interment to follow the next day at 11 a.m. at West End Cemetery.
