Elmer James Arnold, Sr., age 76, of Max Meadows, VA passed away Sunday, July 9, 2017. He was born June 29, 1941 in Wythe County, the son of the late Elmer Gleaves Arnold and Ada Maggie Ayers Arnold and was also preceded in death by several brothers and sisters. Elmer was a veteran of the United States Air Force having served over six years as an aircraft mechanic. He enjoyed welding and construction work.  Elmer is survived by his wife, Dorothy Lineberry Arnold; two sons, Alex and Natasha Arnold of the home, Jay and Sam Arnold of Roanoke, VA; step-son, Jeff and Lois Lineberry of Bridgewater, VA; four grandchildren, two great-grandchildren; three sisters, Rosa and Dewey Huff of Floyd County, VA, Maggie and Kenneth McGee of Piney, VA, Emily and Wilbur Wilson of Floyd County, VA; a brother, Franklin Arnold of Floyd County, VA. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, July 15, 2017 at the Reese Funeral Home. Interment will follow in East End Cemetery. American Legion Post #9 will conduct graveside military rites. The family will receive friends Friday, July 14 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
