Eugene Wilson "Gene" Sheffey, age 80, of Wytheville, VA passed away Friday, July 28, 2017.  He was born December 5, 1936 in Wythe County, the son of the late Harry and Sarah Sheffey. Gene was a veteran of the United States Army, a life-long farmer, and had retired from the Wythe County Trash and Sanitation Department.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 44 years, Wanda Wohlford Sheffey;  two brothers, "Jimmy" and Dan Sheffey; a sister, Joyce Sheffey; and a grandson, Philip Sheffey.

Gene is survived by three sons and special friend, Wayne Sheffey and Mary of Rural Retreat, Dennis and Mark Sheffey of the home;  sister and brother-in-law, Linda and Bill Long of Sanford, FL, sisters and brothers-in-law, Connie and Allen Sawyers and Teana and Robert Hale;  two grandchildren, Dawn and Matthew Sheffey;  four great-grandchildren, Nicholas Wingo, Kymlee, Autumn and Alex Covin;  uncle, Elbert Collins; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends also survive.
Funeral services will be held at 7:00 PM, Monday, July 31, 2017 at the Barnett Funeral Home in Wytheville, VA with the Reverend Joe Carrico officiating.  The family will receive friends Monday from 5:00 PM until service time at the funeral home.

Graveside services will be held at 11:00 AM Tuesday, August 1, 2017 at the Davis Cemetery.
