Evelyn Lee Alderman, 82, of Barren Springs, VA, passed away Saturday, February 5, 2022. She was born June 27, 1939 in Prince Edward County, Virginia. She was the oldest child of Joseph Lewis McKay and Iva Virginia Newcomb McKay. She was preceded in death by her parents, her beloved husband, Elmer Brown Alderman and her beloved son, Elmer Lee Alderman.

Evelyn is survived by her son, Joe and Paula Alderman of Barren Springs; her daughter Janet and Mark Spencer of Max Meadows, VA; her son, Bobby Lewis Alderman of Allisonia, VA; her beloved sister and lifetime companion Alice French of Pulaski, VA; her sister Dorothy and Lewis Locke of Keysville; her brother Joe and Suzi McKay of Seminole, FL; her sister Hilda and Marvin Hodge of Wirtz, Virginia; her sister Nancy & Gerald Absher of Petersburg, VA; 10 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great grandson. Many special brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews and extended family and friends also survive.

Evelyn was a longtime member of the Riverview Church of God.  She was a homemaker in the truest sense of the word.  She was the heart and the foundation of our home. She was respectful, respectable, modest, quiet and humble. She wasn't fancy or frilly.  She loved her family, her church, babies, flowers and cookies.  To know her was to love her. She was one of the sweetest, purest souls.  She died as she lived, quietly and peacefully, in her home surrounded by her loved ones.  We could all only hope to have a passing as quiet and peaceful as hers was.

The family would like to thank friends and family who have provided food, prayers and other encouragement during this time and we would especially like to thank the staff of Wythe Hospice of Southwest Virginia, in Wytheville, Virginia for the wonderful care they provided for Evelyn in her last days.

Funeral services will be held at 11 AM on Friday, February 11, 2022 at the Riverview Church of God with ministers, Eddie Dalton, David Allison, and Bruce Hagy officiating.  Interment will follow in the Alderman Cemetery.  The family will receive friends Thursday, February 10, 2022 from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM at the church building. Reese Funeral Home, Austinville, VA is serving the Alderman family. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Riverview Church of God, the Barren Springs Fire Department, or Wythe Hospice of Southwest Virginia.
