Fred Sawyers, age 79, passed away on Friday, September 15, 2017 at Bastian, Virginia.

He is survived by three sisters, Norma Sawyers of Winston Salem, NC, Betty Lynn Sawyers and Nancy Crockett of Wytheville, VA; Fred is also survived by two brothers, Robert and Edith Sawyers, Lloyd and Teri Sawyers of Wytheville, VA; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Fred was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Beverage Sawyers; five brothers, Charles Sawyers, William Sawyers, Matthew Sawyers, John Grubb and Earl Sawyers; four sisters, Elizabeth Whitten, Genevieve Corbin, Beverage Brown and Patsy Davezon.

Fred was born October 21, 1937 in Wytheville, VA where he resided throughout his life.

He attended Wytheville Training School and Scott Memorial High School.

Fred had a passion for arts and crafts. He loved making items and giving them away.

Fred was a domestic worker until his health began to fail, at which time he retired.

Fred will be sadly missed by his family and friends.

A graveside service will be held Saturday, September 23, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. at West End Cemetery where his parents and siblings are also buried.

The family would like to extend appreciation for the cards, phone calls and other acts of kindness during this time of loss of their loved one.
