Fred Weems St Clair, age 86, of Bastian, VA passed away Tuesday, November 21, 2017.
He was born June 17, 1931 in Stevenson, Alabama, the son of the late John Robert St Clair, Sr. and Susie Weems St Clair. He retired from the United States Marine Corp after 23 years of service. He served as Commissioner of the State Department and Public Welfare under Governor Finch. He was co-owner of Optical Lab for 4 years. Fred was Lay Pastor of the Seventh Day Adventist Church and beginning in 1996, he and his wife served in Costa Rica and Central America as self-supporting missionaries. Upon returning to Wythe County, VA, to retire, he was diagnosed with prostate cancer. Fred was well known in the county for his lectures and herbal classes. He is survived by his wife, Roxana St Clair; two sons, Fred St Clair, Jr. and Maureen R. of Natchez, Mississippi and Thomas R. St Clair and Beth of Pensacola, Florida; daughter, Loyce Daniels and David of Daphne, Alabama. Six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren also survive.
Celebration of Life service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, December 9, 2017 at the Wytheville Seventh Day Adventist Church with retired Pastor Jim Cox officiating.
