Garnett Edward "John" Ayers, age 82, of Max Meadows, VA passed away Monday, January 31, 2022. He was born July 2, 1939 in Wythe County, the son of the late Edgar F. Ayers, Sr. and Lessie Viars Ayers. He was also preceded in death by his son, Garnet Duane Ayers and two sisters, Madeline Elizabeth Viars and Francis Lea Ayers. John was a veteran of the United States Army.

Survivors include three brothers and sisters-in-law, Carl and Shirley Ayers of Wytheville, Ed, Jr. and Libby Ayers of Max Meadows, Gary M. and Nita Ayers of Max Meadows; his sister, Mary Lee "Nancy" Ayers of Max Meadows; one grandchild, Garnet Drew Ayers of Wytheville; several nieces and nephews and many extended family and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 9, 2022 at the Barnett Funeral Home with the Reverend N.R. Taylor officiating.

Interment will follow in West End Cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday one hour before service time.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations be made to a charity of choice.
