Garnie Lee East, Sr.  Age 90, of Graham's Forge Community of Wythe County, passed away on January 9, 2023 in Roanoke Memorial Hospital.  He was born on February 9, 1932 in Snowville, Virginia the son of the late James R. Burcham, Sr. and Mamie East Burcham.  He was preceded in death by his brother, Cecil and sister, Mary.  Garnie was a beloved son, husband, father, grandfather and brother. He was an Army Veteran who served his country in Germany.  Upon returning home, he worked for the Ford Motor Company in Cleveland, Ohio for 31 years.  With retirement, he returned to Wythe County and the community of his youth.  He was a devoted husband who served God through his deep faith and devotion.

Garnie is survived by the love of his life and wife of 71 years, Evelyn McHone East and his son, G.L. (Betty) East, Jr. His grandchildren were the joy of his life including: Grandsons: Daniel (Jennifer) East and David (Elise) East; Great grandchildren: Kelsey, Brenden, Andrew, Riley, Emily (Bryson), Grant, Anderson, Adeline, and Evelyn; Brother, Bob Burcham; Sisters, Gerri Collins and Bessie Tickle; Sister-in-laws: the late Margaret Gallimore, Irene Manuel, the late Helen (Richard) Dennis; Brother-in-laws JR (Libby) McHone, the late Ralph McHone, Jerry (Shirley) McHone.

Graveside service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, January 13, 2023 at West End Cemetery with the Reverend Richard Collins officiating.
