George Houston Sr, 78, of Wytheville VA, passed away, Friday, June 2, 2023. Born March 25, 1945, in Marion VA, he was the son of the late Fred and Betty Wise Houston.

He was a very talented man; he enjoyed singing, playing the piano and golfing. He was a marksmanship instructor. He worked as a deputy sheriff for many years, and he was a lieutenant at the Radford Arsenal for twenty-eight years. He loved to ride his Harley Davidson Motorcycle.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers James Houston, W.C. Houston and sister, Sandra Matthews.

Survivors include his wife of sixty years, Gladys Houston of Wytheville VA; sons, George Houston Jr. of Max Meadows VA, Donnell Houston and wife Missy of Wytheville VA; daughters, Florecia Jenkins and husband Michael of Wytheville VA, Betty Yourse and husband Grady of Greensboro NC; brother, Fred "Sonny" Houston Jr. and sister Bettye Francis Smith; grandchildren, Cathy Boxley, Felicia Horton, Justus Houston, Breanna Jenkins, Khadesjah Yourse, Garrett Yourse, Logan Houston, Laden Houston; great-grandchild, Kaisleighann Houston; special son, Anthony Dabney; His favorite pet his dog Bear.

Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, June 10, 2023, at 2 p.m. at the Franklin Street United Methodist Church in Wytheville VA with the Reverend Harry Grubb officiating. Burial will follow at West End Cemetery in Wytheville VA.

Friends may call Friday, June 9, 2023 from 5 p.m.to 7 p.m. at the Barnett Funeral Home in Wytheville.
