Gwendolyn Beatrice King Ayers, age 78, a devoted and loving mother whose faith and dedication touched the lives of many, passed away peacefully on May 8, 2026, in Salem, Va. Born on March 4, 1948, in Wythe County, Va. to the late Garnett King and Georgia Campbell King. The family grieves the loss of those who predeceased her, including her parents, son-in-law Hubert Dean, and sisters Dawn Pearman and Vickie Akers, whose memories she held dear. Gwendolyn lived a life marked by her unwavering commitment to her family and her service to the Lord.
A cherished member of the Hillsville Pentecostal Church, Gwendolyn served with all her heart, embodying the spirit of faith through her actions and her devotion. Her kindness and warmth left an indelible mark on all who knew her, providing comfort, guidance, and love throughout her life.
Gwendolyn is lovingly remembered by her husband, Donald Ayers of the home; her daughters, Kemberly Dean, Stacy Forrester and her husband Steve, and Amanda Bond and her husband Eric. She was a proud grandmother to Matthew Forrester, Grace Dean, and Lauren Bond, and delighted in her role as a great-grandmother to Eliza Forrester. Her family circle is further enriched by her sisters, Toni Harmon and Dixie Smith, as well as several nieces, nephews, and a many friends who cherished her presence.
Friends and loved ones are invited to pay their respects and celebrate Gwendolyn’s life at the Reese Funeral Home, located at 2214 Austinville Rd, Austinville, VA 24312, on May 12, 2026. Visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m., followed by a Funeral Service at 2:00 p.m. with Jeff Pickett and Ron Fredricks officiating . Burial will follow at Odd Fellows Cemetery.
Gwendolyn Ayers leaves behind a legacy of faith, love, and dedication. Her life was a testament to the strength found in steadfast belief and the enduring power of family. She will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who had the privilege to know her.
