Hansford Eugene “Gene” Arnold, age 86, of Hillsville, Va, passed away Tuesday, April 21, 2026. He was born in Marion, Va on February 2, 1940 to the late Randall Eugene Arnold and Nannie Belle Hawkins Arnold. He was preceded in death by his parents, son Arlys Randall Arnold, and brother Terry Zane Martin. Gene was a US Army Veteran. He liked to be outdoors and enjoyed fishing.

He is survived by his wife of 66 years Lucille Atwell Arnold; son Eugene Cody Arnold (Tena) of Dublin, Va; brother Rick Martin of Colorado; granddaughters Sabrina Darlene Arnold and Cassidy Elizabeth Arnold; great-granddaughter Haven Rayne Isom; and extended family who knew and loved him as Papaw: Allison and Andrew Utt, Andrew Reedy, Charlotte Grace, Wrynlee Tate, Mark and Hannah Mannon, and their son, Colton Mannon, and Ashley and Eric Steen, and their son, Landon Wade.

Funeral Service will be held 12:00 Noon on Monday, April 27, 2026 at Lindsey Funeral Home with Pastor Jeff Pickett officiating. American Legion Post # 229 of Rural Retreat, Va will conduct military graveside rites at Kimberlin Cemetery in Rural Retreat. The family will receive friends one hour before service time.
