Herman Leonard
Jackson, Jr.
December 20, 1935 – June 12, 2022
Herman Leonard (H.L.) Jackson, Jr., age 86, formerly of Roanoke, VA passed away Sunday, June 12, 2022 in Waddell Nursing and Rehab Center, Galax, VA. He was the son of the late Herman L. Jackson, Sr. and Elizabeth Umberger Jackson. He was preceded in death by his wife, Kathleen Pattison Jackson.
Herman is survived by his brother Gerald (Brenda) Jackson, sister Jacqueline J. Cregger, nephews David (Cindy) Jackson and Reid (Laurianne) Jackson and niece Helen C. Vaughan. Several great and great-great nephews and nieces also survive.
Herman was a U.S. Navy Veteran. He worked for Leggett (Belk) department stores for 38 years, retiring from Belk in Roanoke, VA. During that time, he held numerous offices with business and civic organizations, serving on the Board of Directors for the Merchant's Association of the Roanoke Valley and as director of the Virginia Retail Merchants Association.
His love of golfing led him to be involved in working with youth players who were just getting started in the sport. He had served as executive director for the Roanoke Valley Golf Association and was inducted into the Roanoke Valley Golf Hall of Fame in 1999.
A graveside memorial service will be held Saturday, July 30, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. at Bethany United Methodist Church Cemetery in Austinville, VA with the Reverend David Jackson officiating. The family will visit with family and friends in the church fellowship hall following the service.
