Hubert D. Payne, 81 of Ivanhoe, VA and past resident of Columbus, Ohio passed away peacefully surrounded with love and affection on Thursday, February 15, 2018.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Tuesday, February 20, 2018 at Barnett Funeral Home, 325 Church Street, Wytheville, VA 24382. Rev Shannon Payne will be officiating. Friends may call between 11 am – 1pm, Service will begin at 1:00 pm. Burial to follow at Davis Cemetery in Cripple Creek, VA. All are invited to join the family immediately after Burial for a time of fellowship during Reception at Wytheville "Meeting" Center, 333 Community Blvd, Wytheville, VA 24382.
Hubert was born on November 1, 1936 in West Virginia. He was the son of Virgie Ellen Wagner Payne and Clarence Edward Payne. Hubert is survived by three sons, Timothy Peyton Payne (Sharon) of Lithopolis, OH, Hugh Bradley Payne (Dorinda) of Jasper, Indiana, and Shannon Andrew Payne (Lori) of Pataskala, OH. Two Daughters, Virgie Ellen Payne O'Dell (Shawn) of Pickerington, OH and Pamela Sue Payne Turley of Ivanhoe, VA. He leaves behind four sisters, Freda Elma Smith, Wandy Muncy, Sylvia Fern Woods and Theodocia Payne and Two Brothers, Burl Payne and Chester W. Payne. He will be greatly missed by 11 Grandchildren and 16 Great Grandchildren as well as many beloved nieces and nephews.
Hubert was preceded in death by his parents Virgie and Clarence Payne as well as 5 siblings, Etta Marie Moore, Philip S. Payne, Clifford E. Payne, Roland Payne and Wilma L. Finley.
Hubert was known to many family and friends as Hubie. He was a retired Barber with an entrepreneur's spirit having owned and operated several businesses over the years ranging from Furniture Stores to Restaurant Equipment Sales. He was born in West Virginia and lived in Columbus, OH for many years before permanently residing in the State of Virginia. In his later years he enjoyed the simple pleasures of life such as being outdoors and working in his garden, he was an avid gardener. He enjoyed music and he loved spending time with his family. He was a kind and generous man who always had a story or a joke to brighten your day. He was a Son, A Father, A Brother, an Uncle, Grandfather and Friend to many who will miss him dearly. He was and will remain our "Favorite" person always.
