Irene Hope Harden Walters, age 81, of Wytheville, VA passed away Wednesday, June 3, 2026. She was born January 19, 1945 in Wythe County, daughter of the late William and Roberta Irvin Harden. She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Jerry Walters; infant sons, Thimothy Mark and John Michael Walters; four sisters, Nellie Sharitz, Ida Williams, Claudine Montgomery and Aileen Cregger; a brother, William “Billy Moore” Harden; and a grandson, Brandon Lee Smith.

Survivors include two daughters, Jayne and Thom Leppert of Wytheville, JJ and Billy Fortune of Rural Retreat; her sister, Velva J. Harden of Wytheville; eight grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and many extended family members and friends also survive.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 Friday, June 5, 2026 at the Barnett Funeral Chapel with the Reverend Tom Maurer officiating. The family will receive friends from 12:00 noon until service time.

Burial will follow in West End Cemetery.  Barnett Funeral Home, Wytheville, VA is serving the Walters family.
