James Eldridge Akers Jr., age 67, of Marion, Virginia, passed away on Monday, October 26, 2026. He was born in Pulaski, Virginia, on November 16, 1958, to the late James Eldridge Akers Sr. and Gracie Ellen Lane Akers. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, John Frost, Ronnie Akers, and Larry Akers; and two sisters, Mona Lane and June Akers.
James was a man of many talents and simple pleasures. An accomplished craftsman, he found immense pride and satisfaction in carpentry, building and fixing things with his hands. When he wasn't working with wood, he could often be found outdoors with a fishing pole in hand enjoying the peaceful water, or relaxing to the sounds of his favorite classic rock songs. Above all, he cherished the time spent with his family and close friends.
He is survived by two sons Jason Akers of Atkins, Va, Roger and Alexis Akers of Lynchburg, Va; daughter Angela Akers and fiancé Joe Holstein of Marion, Va; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; sister Lucy Jones of Rural Retreat, Va; and close friend Joanie Profitt of Dublin, Va; and several extended family and friends also survive.
Funeral Service will be held on Friday, October 30, 2026 at 1:00 p.m. at Jubilee Baptist Church with Pastor Kelly Marshall officiating. The family will receive friends from 12:00 Noon until the service time at the Church. Burial will follow the service at Jubilee Baptist Church Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to the funeral home to help offset funeral expenses.
