James "Slick" Amos Lee, age 85, of Wytheville, Virginia, passed away on April 18, 2024. He was born on March 19, 1939, in Wytheville, Virginia, to the late Thomas Lee and Mildred Austin Lee. James was a devoted husband to his beloved late wife, Margaret Yerby Lee, and is survived by his daughter, Paulette Bailey Turpin, son Kendall Bailey (Terry), sister Frankie Grubb, as well as a host of nieces, nephews, and grandchildren.
Known for his love of telling stories about his hunting and fishing adventures, James was a skilled gardener, particularly famous for his potatoes. He had a passion for swimming and enjoyed being in the water, often compared to a fish. He cherished his family and enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, Jonathan, Jared, Kendra, Amy and Lisa. James was also a fan of westerns and Virginia Tech football and loved to dance in his younger years.
In his career, James dedicated many years to construction work and was employed by Pendleton Construction until his retirement. He was a faithful Christian who gave himself to God and lived by His Word. He was a cherished and much-loved member of the Wythe County.
A remembrance of life ceremony will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, April 27, 2024 at Barnett Funeral Home with the Reverend Harry Grubb officiating. The family will receive friends one hour before service time. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Wytheville Training School and Cultural Center in memory of James "Slick" Amos Lee. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
