James Clayton "Buck" Gunter, age 64, of Wytheville, VA passed away Thursday, November 17, 2022. He was born July 5, 1958 in Wythe County, son of the late J C and Retha Maxine Crouse Gunter. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Bobby Gunter and a sister, Maxine Brown. Buck was retired from the United States Navy.

Survivors include his wife, Martha Gunter; two step-daughters, Teresa Sheppard and Pamela Dowdy; two sisters, Verna "Tinky" and Wayne Tate and Eleanor Arnold; one brother, Jerry Gunter; mother-in-law, Velma Perdue. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

There will be no services. The family requests in lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Barnett Funeral Home to assist the family with expenses or to a Veterans Organization.
