James Leon Gordon, age 75 of Rural Retreat, VA departed his earthly body bound for the gates of Heaven on Tuesday July 11, 2023. One of his proudest accomplishments while here on Earth was serving in the United States Army. James was the true definition of a hero, earning the prestigious Bronze Star Medal and Purple Heart during his military career. James never met a stranger and would offer a hand to anyone in need. His memory will live on forever in those who knew and loved him.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife: Norma Sue Gordon and parents: Earnest and Annie Gordon.

Survivors include his sons: James and Wendy Gordon and Scott and Janelle Gordon of Rural Retreat, VA. He is also survived by his sister, Teresa Howell of Rural Retreat, granddaughters: Maggie Gordon of Roanoke and Eden Kennedy of Rural Retreat, as well as many special nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Graveside military memorial service will be held Friday July 21, 2023 at 1pm in the beautiful Rosewood Memorial Gardens in Rural Retreat, Va. Pastor Darren Smith officiating. The Gordon family would like to extend a special thank you to the community James loved so much for the
outpouring of love and support during his passing.
