Obituary

James Larry Harrah, 74, of Wytheville, Virginia, passed away on November 22, 2025. Born on May 5, 1951, Larry built his entire life in his hometown. He was the proud grandson of Harry and Ina Dooley and the devoted son of Julia Phyllis Dooley Harrah.

Larry is survived by his wife of 49 years, Ethel Lindamood Harrah, and his two daughters: Kimberly Harrah McDonald and her husband, Travis McDonald, of Virginia Beach, Virginia, and Kathryn Harrah Alexander Sturgill and her husband, Jeff Sturgill, of Wytheville. He was a proud grandfather to four grandchildren who brought him immeasurable joy: Andrew McDonald (21), Kingston Alexander (15), Piper Alexander (13), and Noah McDonald (7).

Larry lived life entirely on his own terms. He was unapologetically himself—steady, strong-willed, and unforgettable. His lifelong love of baseball began on the field in his youth, where he was known on the pitching mound as "Bo Dooley." His passion for sports continued through decades of cheering on his daughters and, later, his grandchildren. He rarely missed a game, and if he wasn't in the stands, he was at home watching his beloved Yankees.

The family sincerely appreciates the outpouring of love and prayers. In honoring Larry's request, services will be held privately.
