James Edgar Hines, Sr., age 85 of Barren Springs, VA passed away Wednesday, September 27, 2017.  He was born in Wythe Co., VA on September 7, 1932 the son of the late James Vivian Hines and Rosa Ogle Hines.  He was an avid member of the AFL-CIO – United Mine Workers of the New Jersey Zinc Company.  He was preceded in death by his wife, Hazel Mae Carpenter Hines; an infant son; infant brother, Harold Ray Hines; 3 grandchildren, Shelly Ann Hines, Brian Lee Hines and Chafin Hines.

He is survived by four sons, James and Alice Hines, Jeffrey Hines, Wayne Hines and Fiance'  Jessica Crigger all of Barren Springs, Alan and Thelma Hines of Scratch Gravel, VA; four daughters, Debbie and Curtis Snider of Parrott, VA, Janet and Lance Elliott of Draper, VA, Kay Hines Stilwell of Wytheville, VA, Jennifer and John Lawson of Grahms Forge, VA; a brother, Paul and Pat Hines of Max Meadows, VA; four sisters, Faye Bralley of Austinville, VA, Jewel and Foster Pike, Frieda Patterson all of Jefferson City, TN, Marie and Bill McNeely of Draper, VA; 12 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren also survive.

Funeral services will be held 7:00 P.M. Saturday, September 30, 2017 at the Reese Funeral Chapel with Rev. Kenneth Quesenberry and Rev. John W. Lawson officiating with a committal service to follow 2:00 P.M. Sunday, October 1, 2017 at the Charity Cemetery.  The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. prior to the service.
