James Lee Johnson, age 77 of Rural Retreat, VA passed away Friday, August 18, 2017 at his home.  He was born in Smyth Co., VA on December 21, 1939 the son of the late Lee Roy Johnson and Viola Hall Johnson.  Jimmy was a retired employee of CenturyLink with 42 years of service and a veteran of the US Army.  He was preceded in death by a son, James Eric "Easy" Johnson.

He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Gladys Atwell Johnson; grandchildren, Leslie Danielle Johnson, Aaron Douglas Johnson; brother, Harvey Johnson of Sugar Grove, VA and a special friend, Dickie Pack of Cripple Creek, VA.

Funeral services will be held 7:00 P.M. Sunday, August 20, 2017 at the Lindsey Memorial Chapel with Rev. Tommy Hodge, Rev. Doug Stuart, Rev. Billy Dean and John Smith, Chaplain of Hospice of Southwest Virginia officiating with a committal service to follow 11:00 A.M., Monday, August 21, 2017 in the Rosewood Memorial Gardens Mausoleum.  The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. prior to the service.  Memorials may be made to the Hospice of Southwest Virginia, 600 West Ridge Road, Wytheville, VA  24382.                                .
