James Steven McFarlane, age 63 of Rural Retreat, VA passed away Tuesday, April 18, 2017.  He was born in Smyth Co., VA on April 16, 1954 the son of the late James Henry McFarlane and Ethel June Stowers McFarlane.  Steve was a member of the Sharon Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Doris Hamm McFarlane; a son, Chad Steven McFarlane and wife Michelle and their daughter, Taylor Belle McFarlane; a daughter, Amber McFarlane and her children, Hailey Elizabeth McFarlane, Jacob Andrew Smith, Madison Grace Smith; a sister, Brenda Atwell of Rural Retreat; several nieces, nephews and special friends also survive.

Funeral services will be held 8:00 P.M. Friday, April 21, 2017 at the Lindsey Memorial Chapel with Rev. Jack Rutherford officiating with a graveside committal service to be held 11:00 A.M. Saturday at the Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Groseclose, VA.  The family will receive friends from 6:00 P.M. until service time.
