James Garner Melton, Sr., age 89, of Kingsport, TN passed away Wednesday, November 2, 2022. He was born April 6, 1933 in Wythe County, son of the late Oscar Floyd Melton and Letha Runyon Melton. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth Ruth Knuckles Melton and several brothers and sisters. James was a proud United States Army Veteran.

Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, James Garner, Jr. and Kathy Melton of Wytheville, VA;  two daughters and son-in-law, Colleen Hash of Wytheville, Pat and Dan Lachut of Lancaster, NY.  Six grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild, several nieces, nephews and many extended family and friends also survive.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, November 6, 2022 at the Barnett Funeral Home with the Reverend Doug Silvers officiating. The family will receive friends one hour before service time. Burial will follow the service at West End Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Disabled American Veterans.
