James William Powell, age 63, of Rural Retreat, VA passed away Wednesday, February 15, 2017.  He was born November 10, 1953 in Washington, D.C., the son of the late John Frederic Powell, Jr. and Rita Fitzgerald Powell.  James is survived by his wife, Teresa Powell; daughter, Jillian Powell of Rural Retreat, VA; step-children, Larry Henderson of Rural Retreat, VA and Amanda Thompson of Lexington, NC; two grandchildren; sister,     Maureen H. Gallagher of Bethany Beach, DE. Memorial services will be held at 4:00 p.m. Saturday, February 25, 2017 at the Barnett Funeral Home. The family will receive friends one hour before service time. Barnett Funeral Home, Wytheville, VA is serving the Powell family.
