James A Puckett, age 81, of Rural Retreat, VA, born in McDowell County WVA passed away at home Friday May 12, 2023.

Jimmy is preceded in death by his parents Mack and Bookie Puckett Raysal, WVA, sister Martha (Marty) and Mike Johnson Grundy, VA, and younger sister Diana Hagerman Three-Forks, WVA.

Surviving are his brothers: Thomas and wife Jaquitita Puckett of Hillsville, VA, Bob and wife Serita Puckett of Summersville, WVA, Merle and wife Donna Puckett of Raysal, WVA., Noah and wife Barbara Puckett of Grundy, VA., Danny and Abigail Puckett Paynesville, WVA., Wesley and wife Libby Puckett of Raysal, WVA., Freddie and wife Rita Puckett, Raysal, WVA.; a very special niece Ellen and husband Barney Stiltner of Gundy, VA.

Most important to Jimmy was his wife and special caregiver Betty Puckett. They were married 57 years. Two sons Mac Puckett of Mountain City, TN. and Conley and Carol Puckett and grandson Konnor of Rural Retreat, VA.

Jimmy was a retired coal miner and musician. He loved life to the fullest and enjoyed riding horses, fixing cars, camping, hunting, singing, playing music, farming, and putting up hay. Loving the farming life, he raised his cows and trained his horses. He worked hard and played hard, he has been a heavy equipment operator, welder, mechanic. If he could see how it worked, he could fix it.

So for without a lot of education he did a lot to help other people and always done the best he could for his family.

The family will receive friends at Lindsey Memorial Chapel on Wednesday May, 17, 2023 from 1:00 P.M. to 2:30 P.M. with interment to follow in Rosewood Memorial Gardens. Family and Friends may call at Conley's home following the visitation.
