Obituary

In the sure and present hope of the Resurrection, Jamie Lindsey Hinkle, age 72, of Crockett, VA, entered the Church Triumphant on July 21, 2025. She was born in Wythe County, VA on July 22, 1952 to the late Rachel Buchanan & James Calvin Lindsey of Rural Retreat, VA.  She was predeceased by grandparents Nora Grubb & Charles Buchanan, Margaret Hackler & Martin Lindsey Sr. and brother-in-law Jerry Hurt.

Jamie graduated from Radford University in 1974 with a B.S. in Health and Physical Education.  She taught in Wythe County Public Schools at Sheffey Elementary and Fort Chiswell High School and Carroll County Middle School.  She also coached middle school and high school girls basketball.

In 1985, Jamie began a second career in banking institutions throughout the Roanoke area that continued until her retirement in 2017.  She served as a branch manager at several Roanoke locations. Jamie was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, a member of Roanoke Kiwanis Clubs and served on the Board of Directors of the Brock Hughes Medical Center.

Survivors include sister Phyllis Hurt, brother Calvin Lindsey (Terri), sister Linda Vaught (Curtis) and aunt June Huffard.  Also surviving are treasured nieces and nephews Rick Hurt (Monica), Chad Vaught (Kim), Meredith Fiscus (Pete), Melinda Heintzinger (Matt), Cameron Vaught (Terri) and Devin Lindsey. Great nieces and nephews Tyler, Cana, Sydney, Michaela, Madison, Chloe, Annabelle, Morgan, Delaney and Makenzie were beloved by Jamie, as was little cousin Sidney.

A celebration of life will be held at Grace Lutheran Church (514 S. Main Street, Rural Retreat, VA 24368) on August 1, 2025 at 11 AM with Br. Jason Darty, OLF officiating.  Interment will follow at Mountain View Cemetery (357 Mountain View Ave, Rural Retreat, VA 24368).

Memorial gifts may be designated to Grace Lutheran Church (P.O. Box 478, Rural Retreat, VA 24368), Mountain View Cemetery (P.O. Box 253, Rural Retreat, VA 24368), or any cancer charity or foundation of your choice.
