Jeffrey "Jeff" Lee Hines

Jeffrey Lee “Jeff” Hines, 67, of Wythe County, Virginia, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, August 6, 2026. Born February 2, 1959, he was the son of the late James E. Hines Sr. and Hazel Mae Carpenter Hines.

Jeff was a devoted father, Pawpaw, brother, uncle, neighbor, and friend. He was known for his big heart, generosity, and sense of humor. He was naturally even-tempered and nonjudgmental. He accepted people as they were, never acted as though he was better than anyone else, and was always willing to help someone in need—even if it meant giving the shirt off his back.

Jeff faced tremendous hardship and physical pain throughout his life, but he rarely complained and continued moving forward. He carried a quiet, personal faith in God and lived by the belief that no matter what life placed in front of you, you kept going.

More than anything, Jeff loved his family. His greatest joy was being Pawpaw to Danica and Colton, who were his world.

Jeff is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Daniel and Jessi Hines; his grandchildren, Danica and Colton; his siblings, James E. Hines Jr. (Alice), Debra Hines Snider (Curtis), Janett Hines Elliott (Lance), Laverne Kay Stilwell, David Wayne Hines (Jess), Dwight Alan Hines (Thelma), and Jennifer Hines Lawson (John); and numerous nieces and nephews.

Also surviving are Angelina Hines, whom Jeff welcomed into his home as part of his family, and her husband, Chris Hines.

In addition to his parents, Jeff was preceded in death by his children, Shelly Ann Hines, Brian Lee Hines, and Chaifen Harvey Hines.

Jeff will be remembered as a good and honorable man whose strength, kindness, humor, and love left a lasting impression on everyone who knew him.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 11, 2026, at Reese Funeral Home in Austinville, Virginia. The funeral service will follow from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m.
