Jerry Scott and his beloved wife, Glenda, have been reunited in the beautiful blue skies of Heaven following his passing away on November 1, 2024 surrounded by loving family members. His death comes on the heels of an eight-year battle with cancer from which he suffers no more.

Jerry was born on July 16, 1956 in a Bluefield WV hospital, the son of

Carl Winfield Scott, Jr. and Kathleen Gayle Muncy Scott. He attended

Bland County Schools, graduating as a member of the Bland High School Class of 1974. He was employed in 1974 by Western Auto Hardware Store in Wytheville as his first job. He later worked for Levi Nelson as a postal carrier before becoming a route salesman for United Dairy, a position he held for 38 years. He retired in May 2020 as a driver for Berry Iron and Metal in Chilhowie VA after 44 years in the trucking business.

Jerry and Glenda were members of Mechanicsburg Christian Church in

Mechanicsburg for many years where they both served on the General Board as Chairman and Treasurer, respectively. It was there in August 2012, they renewed their wedding vows in a special ceremony officiated by Pastor Thomas Maurer.

Jerry was also a sports photojournalist for the Bland County Messenger from 1985 until his death, having covered high school sports for Bland High School Rockets, Rocky Gap High School Eagles, and Bland County High School Bears.

In addition to being preceded in death by his beloved wife Glenda Leigh

Justus Scott on July 6, 2020, Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, Carl W. Scott, Jr. and Kathleen Gayle Muncy Scott, his maternal grandparents Andrew N. Muncy, Sr, and Merle V. Muncy, his paternal grandparents Carl W. Scott, Sr. and Pauline W. Scott, several aunts, uncles, cousins, friends and father-in-law Clell Justus. Jerry is survived by his son and daughter-in-law Todd and Ami Scott of

Wytheville. Also surviving are his brother and sister-in-law Steve and Debbie Scott of Bland. Other survivors include aunts Sandy Muncy- Marchal of Bluefield and Patricia Muncy of Bland, mother-in-law and step-father in-law Jantine and Michael Hill, sisters-in-law Jana Winchester and Kelly Justus, brother-in-law Mark and Paula Justus, all from Tennessee. seven nieces, and one nephew as well as many cousins and friends. He is also survived by his caregiver, Hayden Caudill, as well as her siblings, Peyton, Aceyn, and their mother, Haley Caudill, who helped Hayden take such great care of Jerry during his cancer battle.

Jerry loved sports. In addition to the aforementioned Bland County sports teams, Jerry was an avid fan of Atlanta Braves baseball, Virginia Tech football, Dallas Cowboys football, and NASCAR racing. Some of his proudest moments were spent with son Todd and brother Steve attending sporting events.

Jerry loved music, especially classic rock music from the 60s, 70s, and 80s eras. In addition to listening to music, he enjoyed playing music. In seventh grade, he, along with his cousin Richard Muncy and friends Tommy Harner and Jimmy Tate formed The Blue Moons, a young quartet that performed at school dances, talent shows, and family reunions. About 1985, he joined friends Bobby Gibson, Doug Goins, Rufus Cantrell, and Suzi Cramer, and cousin Lyle Muncy as founding members of Rockin' Horse, a classic rock band. Surviving members of Rockin' Horse joined together to play at the Fair Summer Sideshow in August 6, 2022 in Jerry's final performance as a musician.

A Funeral Service for Jerry will be held 7:00 PM Monday November 4, 2024 at the Bland Funeral Chapel with Rev. Thomas Maurer officiating, the family will receive friends Monday evening at the Bland Funeral Chapel from 5:00 PM until service time.

A graveside service for interment will be held 1:00 PM Tuesday November 5, 2024 at the Bland Cemetery.

Serving as pallbearers will be Alan Mills, Timmy Richardson, Michael

Brooks, Junior Hicks, Rich Hankins, Jason Lambert, Robbie Via, and

Ben Johnson. Honorary pallbearers are Wallace Rankin, Josh Neal, Steve Smith,

Michael Meadows, and the late Johnny Goins.

While flowers are much appreciated, the family requests that monetary donations be sent to the American Cancer Society or Shriner's Children Hospitals. The family would like to thank Dr. Jerome Goldschmidt and the infusion nurses at Blue Ridge Cancer Care, namely Tish Thomas, Kayla Hughes, Jenifer Harris, and Alyssa Meadows for their care of their loved one throughout the years.
