Joan Carrol Maxey age 93 of Rural Retreat, VA passed away Saturday, May 6, 2023. She was born in Wythe Co., VA on February 23, 1930 the daughter of the late John Frank Catron and Frances Lyons Catron and was preceded in death by her husband Richard Cook Maxey. Joan loved gardening and working in her flowers and had run her greenhouse for 20 plus years.

She is survived by her children, Peggy Houseman of Wytheville, VA, David R. Maxey (Iva) of Crockett, VA, Rodney J. Maxey (Brenda) of Rural Retreat, VA; grandchildren, Brian Houseman, Maranda Davidson, Craig Alan Maxey, Brittany Thies; great-grandchildren, Jackson, Samuel, Leliana, John, Kailey, Cooper; brothers, Nelson Catron of Arizona, Kyle Catron of Tennessee; several nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services will be held 7:00 P.M. Tuesday, May 9, 2023 at the Lindsey Memorial Chapel with Rev. David Payne officiating with a committal service to follow 10:00 A. M. Wednesday, May 10, 2023 at the Mountain View Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 7:00 P.M. prior to the service. Memorials may be made to the charity of one's choice.
